My 2018 Reading and Plan for 2019

It’s finally the end of the year and I would like to share my 2018 reading experience. Earlier this year, I had set my reading goal to read 50 books. Last year, I did 100 books and ended up reading 119 books and back in 2013 I even finished 251 books. So why did I only 50 books this year? Because I felt that this year I would be quite busy working and I had wanted to try new hobbies such as knitting (which was a total mess) and personally, I didn’t want to push myself too hard in case I got a reading slump.

Did I achieve my goal?

2018grYup,  I ended up reading 60 books and according to Goodreads, it was equivalent to 22,876 pages. The thickest book I read this year is The Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas (which also my most favorite in 2018) and the thinnest is Love & Misadventure by Lang Leav, each 980 and 176 pages thick. The most recent book I read this year is The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore. It was the second book in a series of a total 7 books, which means I have to continue the next series next year.

Rating

According to Goodreads, my average rating this year was only 3.4. Not too big huh? Anyway, the books that I gave the highest rating (5 stars) were as follows:

  • How to Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
  • A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
  • Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas

While my least favorite book this year was The Fire Queen by Emily R. King. I only gave a 2-star rating (which means it was an OK read) because I got bored of the story and I thought it was too long and too slow progressed so I got uninterested by the end of the book. Finally, I decided to drop this series and did not continue with the other 3 books.

2019 Plan & TBR

I have got several unavoidable plans next year, so I decided to read only 50 books by the minimum. Well, hopefully, I will still pass the target as I did in previous years. There are also some books I aim to finish reading by next year. So here are 20 books in my 2019 to-be-read list:

  1. Aru Shah and the End of Time – Roshani Chokshi
  2. Spinning Silver – Naomi Novik
  3. The City of Brass – S.A. Chakraborty
  4. Lord of Shadows – Cassandra Clare
  5. Queen of Air and Darkness – Cassandra Clare
  6. The Invasion of Tearling – Erika Johansen
  7. The Burning Maze – Rick Riordan
  8. The Last of August – Brittany Cavallaro
  9. The Case for Jamie – Brittany Cavallaro
  10. Outrun the Moon – Stacey Lee
  11. Children of Blood and Bone – Tomi Adeyemi
  12. House of Furies – Madeleine Roux
  13. Court of shadows – Madeleine Roux
  14. The Wicked King – Holly Black
  15. Dragon Pearl – Yoon Ha Lee
  16. Chain of Gold – Cassandra Clare
  17. King of Scars – Leigh bardugo
  18. A Reaper at the Gates – Sabaa Tahir
  19. Wildcard – Marie Lu
  20. Four Dead Queens – Astrid Scholte

So, those are goals that I achieved in 2018 and plan for 2019.
